Course Description: Learn how to set up an organic indigo vat, and create patterns on indigo-dyed fabric.

In this two-day workshop you’ll learn about the origins and many applications of indigo dye as you mix your own organic indigo dye starter and vat. You will learn various “ resist” techniques including folding, clamping, and stenciling with clay resist paste to create patterns on your indigo-dyed cotton fabric. Create your own stencil, or use a pre-cut stencil that will be provided. You’ll leave the workshop with your dyed cotton fabrics, your stencil, and loads of knowledge to set up your own organic indigo vat at home.

Students will leave the workshop with their dyed fabrics, their stencil and their indigo vat (if they can transport it home- preferably in a pick up truck with bungee cords).
